5 Music Tech Ideas: From the Weird to the Wonderful

By July 17, 2017Blog, General, Technology

Everybody loves a gadget. Everybody loves music. We decided to take a look at what happens when you bring the two together. Some are weird, some are wonderful, and some could really change things forever…

Nomura’s Squeeze Music

This ingenious smoothie maker takes the waveforms of different tracks, before categorising them as either ‘sentimental’, ‘romantic’, ‘happy’ or ‘sad’ and matching them to ‘corresponding’-ish flavours such as sweet, salty and sour etc. The idea is that you can literally ‘taste the music.’ In the words of its creator Akinori Goto, ‘At a music festival, for example, you can enjoy the experience to have a drink blended according to a song while listening to it at the gig.’ Also – they come as alcoholic versions…

Skin Motion’s Soundwave Tattoos

People have got soundwave images and print-outs (as well as many other weird and wacky things) printed on their bodies for years now. However, these new Soundwave Tattoos come with a difference. If you have a tattoo and you, or someone else, has the Skin Motion app on their phone – you can point the phone at the tattoo and hear the real audio file played back. Sure, it’s a bit of a gimmick but it is kinda cool.

Directional Speakers

Directional Speakers create sound which ‘only you can hear’ – or at least that’s what they say… More specifically, it directs sound in one direction, so anyone directly

There are a number of options out there and they’re not outrageously expensive. If you point it in the right direction it might finally mean an end to noise complaints from your neighbours at 3am. At the very least, you should be able to give your flatmates some peace and quiet.

PageFlip Firefly

Musicians are at the heart of music – and sometimes they get left behind in music tech, with talk of playable tattoos, and musical smoothies. PageFlip puts the focus firmly back on those actually playing the instruments though, solving the age old issue of turning a page of music while playing. It’s an app that uses Bluetooth to easily turn a page simply with a stomp of your foot.

Zimrii Music Platform

Of course, here at Zimrii we couldn’t let a list of the most weird and wonderful tech ideas go without a mention of the revolutionary platform we’re developing ourselves. Just like PageFlip, but in a much bigger way, we’re changing the way artists and musicians interact with their community and receive their fair share of the money they earn. By using Blockchain technology Zimrii will cut out intermediaries making it faster, easier and more rewarding for everyone involved.
